Chairman’s Report #26  »  Illuminate Mayflower 400     (28 November, 2014)

Thursday 20 November 2014 the Mayor Councillor Malcolm Cullum and Councillor Brian Duke were very kindly invited to attend

The Illuminate - Mayflower 400 Ceremony in Plymouth.

The ceremony started at the  Mayflower Steps, where a single candle was lit on the spot where The Pilgrim Fathers set sail from Plymouth in 1620. This ceremony was followed by an illuminated parade of floats, made by the community, which made its way from the Mayflower Steps to The Hoe.

As the single candle arrived on The Hoe  an outline '400' comprising 1000 people with candles was lit to symbolise one community created on both sides of the Atlantic

The Mayor Councillor Malcolm Cullum commented "What a great way to start the official countdown to the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers setting sail from Plymouth to America in 1620".

A very proud  moment to be asked to sign the compact agreement between Plymouth & America
