Immingham In Bloom

Immingham in Bloom was started in late 2009 as an initiative of the Town Council. Envious of the success of our neighbours in Cleethorpes and Grimsby, Council wanted to see if they could deliver anything like the same level of support here. (Who back then could have guessed what was to follow?)

Funds were sourced and a group of keen volunteers was found. It is the partnership between the Council and this voluntary group that makes the project so successful. Working with volunteers engages the Council staff and brings the Council closer to the people it serves.

In Bloom helps by funding over 500 hours of staff time by direct donation from sponsor funds, allowing staff to work with the group and keep the floral displays so nice.

Council staff are as passionate about the project as are the In Bloom volunteers and attend In Bloom meetings to discuss ideas.

They work with volunteers on “clean up days” and litter picking amongst other tasks such as weeding and strimming. They also enjoy the fact that they receive numerous positive comments from residents and visitors to the town, especially those who haven’t been here for a long time who always notice the huge changes.

The partnership is clearly going from strength to strength and it could not exist without both sides pulling together. Each year this team is not only winning more awards but making a real difference to the town. That’s what gives staff, volunteers and Council the most pleasure!

Immingham In Bloom 2018

Immingham In Bloom 2018

Immingham in bloom just gets better and better, another successful year, yet again a gold award in the regional  East Midlands in Bloom competition the 8th year running to receive this award and to win the category as well, also for the second time Immingham in bloom received a gold award at the prestigious Britain in Bloom awards night held in Belfast a great honour to receive this on behalf of the community of Immingham.

Our most successful year yet, 2018 was a year for us to be very proud of, because of our success last year when Immingham in bloom appeared on national tv the RHS invited us to put on a display at the RHS flower show at Tatton park, you know what a mad bunch we are so we took on the challenge. This was very daunting for all our volunteers but with the support of our sponsors ABP and the students of Goole college we decided to build another container ship and crane, we spent 5 days at Tatton creating our display and to our shock the judges awarded us an RHS gold medal.

Volunteers are always welcome to join our group we meet every Tuesday morning at 9am at the Civic Centre, just turn up and share the fun.

Another record breaking year for the town of Immingham our most successful year yet, 2017 was a year for us to be very proud of, gold award again, several other awards and winning the town category in the regional competition, Coomb Briggs Primary School also gained a gold award for the third year running.

We also had the honour of appearing on national TV. For 3 months during 2017 we were followed around by the BBC to make a programme called Britain in Bloom and when our show was aired on the 4th May everyone thought we had done Immingham proud ,the comments from the community and from visitors to the town keep on coming, and the phrase that we still hear more and more is “Immingham has never looked better“.

Immingham In Bloom 2016

Another year has flown by and we enter our 7th season full of optimism.

Immingham in Bloom was started in late 2009 as an initiative of the Town Council. It has always been a partnership between the group and the Town Council and it works so well. (Who back then could have guessed where we would have progressed to in 7 years??) It is the partnership between the Council and this voluntary group that makes the project so successful. Working with volunteers engages the Council staff and brings the Council closer to the people it serves. In Bloom helps by funding over 500 hours of staff time by direct donation from sponsor funds and offsets Council work by picking up some of the tasks too, freeing up specialist staff to plant and mow.

Volunteers are now giving over 50 man hours each week and we have had several new faces this year. A real bond has formed between them all and they are out in all weathers (mad as hares!) even in the evenings.

This year is putting an even greater demand on time with the honour of representing the region in Britain in Bloom, for only the 2nd time. This means we have to peak twice (3 times if you count Best Kept Town as well) but the staff and volunteers are up to the challenge, with gold medals in both firmly in our sights!

If you are interested in joining our ever growing band, just give us a call!

2016 Immingham In Bloom received a Gold Award and was the Category Winners of East Midlands In Bloom & A Gold Medal in the Britain In Bloom Town Category
